Innocence lost but she is not disillusioned.  She demands truth and maintains hope.  Her engaged stare and the detail of her skin was an irresistible inspiration for the artist.  In this drawing Brett worked to capture her raw edge.  He wanted a tangible effect so the viewer could feel the texture of her skin with their eyes.  This was the first time he used a darker pencil.
