Brett met this very young girl, nearly 5 years old, on a winter day in the street in bhaktapur Nepal.  She looked directly into his camera lens as if looking for an answer.  Her awareness is forming.  The artist and his long scarf, can be seen reflected in her eye.  Her life is hard.  She survives some of the most difficult circumstances faced by people.  Poverty is an inescapable and ever-present fact of her life.  She wanders looking for something to eat or keep her warm or just for some attention.  She watches tourists come and go with privilege, comfort and security.  She has none of those things.  She wonders why this is and why she can't do anything about it.  Many tourists take for granted that they have all they need and are blind to her struggles.  As she watches them disregard her, she learns about the world and the people in it.
